Heating Engineer
Location: London & Whipsnade
Reports to: Maintenance Manager
Salary: £50,000
Key Purpose of the Role:
In conjunction with the Maintenance Manager deliver and supervise cost effective Reactive Maintenance and/or PPM service, along with any related new build/ refurbishment programmes, including installation of new/replacement systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Work as the lead engineer to deliver the appropriate service level.
- Ensure that the appropriate risk assessments are completed and any required control measures are in place prior to carrying out tasks.
- Adopt a flexible approach and assist the team to achieve its goals.
- Ensure that our Army customer is treated with respect and disruption to the Army operation is kept to a minimum.
- Ensure that the team, sub-contractors and any third parties are kept in a safe environment.
- Ensure that any records, drawings, data sheets, circuit charts, pipe work routes etc. are maintained and updated and returned to your supervisor.
- Observe the estate and report to your supervisor/Helpdesk any areas that require action.
- Be prepared to work outside your core discipline (subject to training/supervision) to aid overall efficiency.
- Will be required to conduct out-of-hours call-out cover.
- Ensure that all areas of personal responsibility adopt and utilise Pareto policies and procedures.
- Take all reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of themselves, Pareto & ZSL employees, customers or members of the public is not affected by their activities.
- Undertake all types of plumbing/mechanical repairs and installation work (including ancillaries) to the required standard and in line with any documentation provided.
- Ensuring the recording of all maintenance works when completed are posted through the appropriate, equipment, systems and documentation as required by the Company Management System.
- Where appropriate supervise and direct subcontractors in the delivery of Reactive and PPM tasking.
- Able to carry out functions in an organised and logical manner with a flexible ‘can do’ approach.
- Work as part of a team to deliver an efficient and effective service to the client, customer and stakeholders.
Carry out such duties as may be reasonably required from time to time by the Line Manager or other Senior Managers.
Qualifications
Essential:
- City & Guilds Level 1,2 & 3 Certificate in Plumbing & Heating or NVQ Level 1,2 & 3 Certificate in Plumbing & Heating, Gas Safe Modules:
- CCN1: Core Domestic Gas Safety
- CEN1: Install, exchange, service, repair, breakdown and commission domestic gas fired Central Heating/hot water boilers and circulators up to 70KW
- CKR1: Install, exchange, service, repair, breakdown and commission domestic gas cooking appliances
- HTR1: Install, exchange, service, repair, breakdown and commission domestic open balanced and fan assisted fuelled gas fires and wall heaters
- WAT1: Install, exchange, service, repair, breakdown and commission domestic gas instantaneous water heating appliances
- PARTL: Certificate in Energy Efficiency for Domestic Heating (England and Wales)
- CDGA1: Commission, service, repair and breakdown of commercial direct fired heating appliances and equipment
- CIGA1: Install, commission, service, repair and breakdown of commercial indirect fired heating appliances/equipment
- CODNCO1: Changeover domestic natural gas to commercial natural gas
- CORT1: Install, commission, service, repair and breakdown of gas fired commercial overhead luminous radiant plague and radiant tube heaters
- ICAE1: Installation first fix of commercial appliances/equipment
- ICPN1: Installation first fix of commercial pipe work
- TPCP1A: Testing and purging of low pressure commercial not exceeding 1m3 in volume, 21 mbar operating pressure
Desirable:
- Unvented hot water systems
- Water Regulations
- Part L Building Regulations.
- TPCP1: Testing and purging commercial installation pipe work exceeding 1m3 in volume, up to 16 bar operating pressure natural gas & 2 bar LPG
- Building Management Systems (BMS)/controls.
- Steam boilers and pressurised systems.
- Swimming pool plant.
- Authorised Person (AP) in a mechanical discipline.
Experience & Knowledge:
Essential:
- Extensive post qualification experience in chosen discipline, predominantly in the commercial/industrial field.
- As the only on-site mechanical engineer, the candidate must be able to work under pressure and think on their feet.
Desirable:
- Work in Public focused organisations, BMS/building environmental control systems.
Skills:
- To maintain acceptable productivity levels by dealing effectively with problems as they arise and minimising ‘wastage’.
- Have a flexible and positive response to enforced changes to plans and programmes.
- An ability to work closely with your fellow team members and the management team to the benefit of ZSL and Public.
