We’re looking for an experienced Facilities Electrician to join our engineering team, primarily based at our client site in Hemel Hempstead.
This is a varied, hands-on maintenance role covering electrical systems alongside wider building services. You’ll be responsible for planned and reactive maintenance, fault finding, installations, compliance works and contractor support, while providing a professional service to the client.
Although Hemel Hempstead will be your main base, you’ll also provide occasional support at sites in Covent Garden, Milton Keynes and Loughborough, with travel expenses covered.
What you’ll be doing
Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and responding to reactive maintenance requests.
Diagnosing electrical faults and completing repairs and remedial works.
Carrying out electrical installation works as required.
Responding to a wider range of building services issues, including mechanical, plumbing and HVAC-related tasks where appropriate.
Managing maintenance requests from initial report through to completion and keeping the client and Facilities Management team updated.
Completing statutory, regulatory, compliance and health & safety remedial works.
Maintaining accurate maintenance records and updating the Infraspeak system.
Ensuring all works are completed safely, professionally and to the required client standards.
Supporting and supervising subcontractors undertaking planned and reactive works.
Reviewing RAMS and ensuring contractors work in line with agreed safe systems of work.
Checking subcontractor works have been completed satisfactorily.
Providing technical M&E advice and support to the client where required.
Communicating planned works clearly and helping minimise disruption and downtime.
Identifying opportunities to improve existing systems and maintenance processes.
Working independently when required, while also supporting the wider engineering team.
What we’re looking for
You’ll need solid electrical maintenance experience within a facilities, building services or similar environment, along with a practical and professional approach to fault finding and maintenance.
Essential qualifications:
NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation
City & Guilds 2365 Level 2 or Level 3
Desirable:
BS7671 18th Edition
Inspection & Testing qualification
You’ll also need to be comfortable working independently, communicating with clients and contractors, and taking ownership of maintenance issues through to completion.
Team structure
You’ll be joining a small engineering team, with two engineers currently in place and two additional positions being recruited.
Jobs are completed both independently and collaboratively, depending on the nature of the task, so you’ll need to be comfortable working on your own while also contributing as part of the wider team.
On-call
The role includes participation in an on-call rota of one week in every four, covering out-of-hours calls between 16:30 and 08:00.
You’ll receive an additional £118 standby payment for the on-call week, with any hours worked as part of a call-out paid at 1.5x your standard rate.
Training and progression
We encourage continued development within the engineering team and will provide training courses to help you build your skills and technical knowledge.
This role would suit someone looking for a stable facilities maintenance position with the opportunity to broaden their experience and continue developing within a growing engineering team.
